The Park Hill Stakes has been a good race for the Gosdens in recent years. It’s the feature race of the day on Day 1 of Doncaster‘s St. Leger meeting on Thursday. John & Thady Gosden have won the last two renewals of this race and John has won it four times in the last 10 years. It would therefore be unwise to rule out their sole representative in this year’s race, which is available at 15-2. One Evening (15-2, William Hill) comes into this race as a fairly lightly raced and unexposed candidate. It’s likely to help her chances here if the ground dries up before the race, as she’s been pulled out on good to soft ground previously. She may well have needed the run on her seasonal debut, when fifth in a Group 3 at York in May, as many of the yard’s runners did at the time.
This four-year-old filly has been solid in her two subsequent starts, finishing second in a Listed race at Pontefract and just being denied at York over 1m4f last time. John & Thady Gosden’s charge certainly finished like the extended 1m6f trip here would suit, keeping on very strongly in the final stages of the race. She needs to improve a little but there is scope for further progress still.
Her dam was competitive at up to 1m2f and she’s by the great Galileo, so there’s every reason to believe she will get the trip. Champion jockey William Buick is booked for the ride here which is always a positive and it’s usually noteworthy when he joins forces with the Gosden yard.
