Doncaster‘s Futurity Trophy is the last British Group 1 Flat race on the calendar and the great Aidan O’Brien will be seeking to boost his tally of top-level successes in 2025. He trains the bulk of the entries at this stage but there’s a 11/1 shot for the home team that could give favourite Benvenuto Cellini a run for his money. Ralph Beckett trains the horse in question and there was lots to like about his last run. Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Cape Orator (11/1, Boylesports) has earned a rating of 105, after winning three of his five starts so far. He needed the experience when sixth on debut at Newbury but left that run well behind him and won nicely at Kempton next time.
A trip to Deauville then followed and he produced an excellent display to impressively, taking home a big pot in the process. Connections returned to Britain and went for the Group 2 Champagne Stakes at Doncaster and he ran a nice race to finish third.
The first and fourth have both won Group 1s since so it’s very hard to knock the form. Staying on well to win over a mile at Longchamp last time, he deserves a shot at this level and looks more than ready for it.
Obviously the ante-post favourite is likely to be a tough nut to crack but Beckett’s colt brings some excellent form to the table and should be very competitive. Don’t underestimate this son of Mohaather because a big run could be on the cards.
