Flat racing returns to the turf at Doncaster on Saturday and that will be music to the ears of some. Doncaster’s iconic Lincoln meeting gets the season underway and the big race itself is sure to be a competitive affair once again.
Liam Bramall has had an ante-post look at the race and picked out a 20/1 tip to add to your notebooks. The horse in question was progressive towards the back end of last season and there could be more to come in 2025. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Naepoint represents the Ed Bethell yard and he’s definitely a trainer on the up. This horse was a very progressive three-year-old, especially towards the end of the season, and it’s therefore easy to be confident of further improvement this term.
It doesn’t matter how fast or slow the ground conditions are, as he won his last two starts of 2024 on good to firm and soft. That kind of versatility will certainly come in handy and it adds another big tick next to his name.
The son of Blue Point’s last success came over a straight mile at Redcar in October, also winning over the same course and distance before that, and those experiences will stand him in good stead for this test. Clearly this is a step up in grade but he looks more than ready for it.
There are no guarantees that he’s going to get in but even if he doesn’t Bethell’s four-year-old would surely be an even more likely winner of the consolation race. The handicapper has put him up 5lb since his last win but he remains lightly raced and the best is probably yet to come.
