There’s loads of racing to enjoy on Bank Holiday and the best of the action comes from the Curragh. We’ve got two Listed races, a Group 3 and the Group 2 Mooresbridge Stakes on the agenda so we’ve picked out some of the key angles. Arc runner-up Minnie Hauk makes her return in the main event, we could see the next Paddington and there’s an interesting stat to consider. Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Aidan O’Brien won the Listed Tetrarch Stakes with Paddington back in 2023. The son of Siyouni came into the race off the back of victory in the Madrid Handicap at Naas and went on to win four consecutive Group 1s, including the Eclipse and Sussex Stakes.
Causeway is following the same path as Paddington, having won the Madrid Handicap on seasonal debut last time out, and the step up to Listed level shouldn’t be a problem. It remains to be seen if he can develop into a top-class miler but the sky’s the limit at the moment.
Minnie Hauk was an exceptional performer over 1m4f last season and she landed three Group 1s, the first of which was the Oaks at Epsom. She then followed up in the Irish equivalent and the Yorkshire Oaks, before producing a stunning performance to finish a narrow second in the Arc.
It’s very difficult to take her on in the Mooresbridge Stakes (4.10), as none of her rivals can offer up any form on the same level. The daughter of Frankel will improve plenty for the run but should be fit enough to come out on top here.
Joseph Murphy’s Cercene is the next best option and she is best placed to pick up the pieces if Minnie Hauk fails to fire. Her victory in the Coronation Stakes is obviously good form, although she failed to back that up in two subsequent runs.
The Listed First Flier Stakes (1.50) is open to two-year-olds and Aidan O’Brien has won the race three times in the last four years. He sends debut winner New Yorker and the son of No Nay Never will be fancied to go close, although it’s a Joseph O’Brien runner who heads the market.
