The bookies dread this Willie Mullins treble at Punchestown on Sunday

Willie Mullins at the 2018 Cheltenham Festival

Willie Mullins always asserts his dominance once we enter the new year and 2026 isn’t expected to be any different. The master trainer sends three runners to Punchestown on Sunday and the bookies will be hoping at least one of them fails to win. He’s the course’s top trainer with 30 winners on the board already and is always dangerous. With that in mind, we’ve combined them into a treble and good luck if you want to get involved. 12.50 Punchestown

Predators Gold (2/1, bet365) gets the nod from Paul Townend ahead of stablemate Kappa Jy Pyke and it’s easy to see why. He was a pretty smart novice hurdler a couple of seasons ago and ran well in three Grade 1s but was off the track for more than 18 months due to injury. The fact that he managed to beat Slade Steel on his first start back is very impressive and he’s entitled to improve plenty for the run.

2.20 Punchestown

Sober (11/8, bet365) won two Group 2s on the Flat in his native France and scored nicely first time out over hurdles at Killarney in May. Connections then ran him on the Flat at Royal Ascot and he went on to score impressively. Provided the trip isn’t too sharp, this classy operator is very much the one to beat. Stablemate Free Spirit isn’t without a chance but Townend has probably picked wisely.

2.50 Punchestown

Riskabahia (9/4, bet365) was a winner on the Flat in France and looked badly in need of the run at Navan on stable and hurdling debut. Significant improvement is anticipated here and the Rich Ricci-owned mare can leave that effort well behind her.
