It’s fair to say that jockey Lewis Edmunds is worth noting at Ffos Las this season. He has had just six rides at the Welsh track during the current campaign and three have resulted in victory. This gives him a 50 per cent strike-rate which is very impressive indeed. It could therefore be significant that he heads there on Monday for two rides which when combined, form a tantalising 36-1 double. Mountain Ash (13-2, William Hill) was narrowly denied over course and distance off this mark back in August when finishing second by three-quarters-of-a-length. The gelding’s sole win came off a mark of 46 at Lingfield. It was also a fair effort when cruelly denied a second career-victory by a short head at Chepstow off 1lb lower in June.
Clearly competitive off this sort of mark and there’s every reason to believe he’ll run his race again. A similar run to that course and distance effort two starts ago could well be enough to take this and a big run could be on the cards.
Snapcracklepop (4-1, William Hill) tries 1m2f for the first time here. There’s no guarantees from his fairly speedy pedigree that it’ll suit. Despite that, there is evidence in some of his races that it could improve him. He’s a strong finisher over a mile and looks short of tactical speed when push comes to shove before keeping on.
Won a better race than this at Windsor three starts ago and now finds himself on a mark just 3lb higher. If the new trip helps, it could inspire some improvement which could lead to a return to the winners’ enclosure for William Muir and Chris Grassick’s three-year-old.
