Sunday’s highlights: Stat of the day, a 14/1 longshot and Nottingham’s Listed prize

Three horses in contention to win at Nottingham racecourse in 2019

It’s been an entertaining week so far and we’ve got another three meetings to look forward to across Britain on Sunday. Musselburgh‘s Sunday Series card will be live on ITV, as will a further four races from Nottingham. Wetherby also offers up a seven-race card, giving us plenty to sink our teeth into.

We’ve selected some of the day’s more intriguing angles and our stat of the day involves a jockey at Wetherby, who was 2/2 at the track last year.

Nottingham’s Listed Nottinghamshire Oaks is the race of the day and we’ve also got an overpriced longshot to consider. Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

Listed prize on offer at Nottingham

Six runners have been declared for the Nottinghamshire Oaks but the market can only see one winner, and it’s hard to disagree. See The Fire brings a very high level of form to the table and she ran in some of the very top middle-distance races in Europe last season.

Things didn’t quite go to plan in the Breeders’ Cup when last seen but she was an excellent second in the Prix de l’Opera before that. Andrew Balding’s five-year-old destroyed her rivals in the Middleton Stakes at York last May and that form is significantly stronger than any of the other runners here.

Lava Stream was narrowly denied in the Ribblesdale Stakes but ran poorly in two subsequent starts and is hard to fancy off the back of a 612-day absence. That’s Amore is very lightly raced and she was fourth behind Minnie Hauk in the Cheshire Oaks last term. Perhaps she can offer some resistance.

Stat of the day

Darragh Keenan was 2/2 at Wetherby last year and he returns to take just one ride on Sunday. Shahik won a Newcastle maiden in October but wasn’t quite up to it in a Listed race on seasonal debut. Improvement seems likely and the drop in grade will surely help his cause.

Longshot to follow at Musselburgh

Sovereign Bright (14/1, Boylesports) has finished third in both starts so far this season and there could be more to come from her in handicap company. There were signs of improvement at Newcastle last time out and a 2lb drop in the weights can only help her chances.
