Sunday racing: Irish raiders at Kelso, O’Keeffe at Uttoxeter and a rare Berry bumper runner
Sunday is another big day of racing and it is of course Irish 1,000 Guineas day at the Curragh. Adrian Wall goes through all the interesting things the day has to offer.
Irish raiders aplenty at Kelso
Osco Flyer (2.28) is the first of two runners on the card for Cian Collins. He made a pleasing debut when a never-nearer fifth in a 14-runner Killarney juvenile hurdle over 2m3f earlier this month, and won’t have to improve a great deal to play a part in this novices’ hurdle.
Impero (3.03) is another Collins inmate and he was an easy winner of this race 12 months ago and although he faces a much stiffer task at the weights this time around, he has improved since and was last seen finishing second behind a good one on his return at Killarney.
Ladies Well (4.47) is the first of two runners for Andy Slattery. The mare won at Ballinrobe in August but has been out of form in three starts since. She now goes chasing for a shrewd outfit so monitor the market.
Boy Aaron (5.57) is the other runner for Slattery, who boasts a fine record in bumpers. The son of Affinisea should have plenty of ability if he lives up to his pedigree.
Darragh O’Keeffe with one ride at Uttoxeter
O’Keeffe pops across the Irish Sea to take the sole ride on Telhimlisten (4.37) for Jennie Candlish. The veteran looked very good when landing a 2m3f handicap hurdle at Stratford on return in March after an absence and has a big chance from 4lb higher.
Rare National Hunt runner for John Berry
Sano City (5.47 Uttoxeter) was second in a Warwick bumper on debut and Berry has a 19% strike-rate in bumpers since the mid-1990s.
Aidan O’Brien’s 950,000 guineas filly makes Curragh debut
Ryan Moore has opted to ride Sun Goddess but Wayne Lordan will ride Snowing (1.45), a very expensive daughter of No Nay Never.
