As the ITV cameras return for Friday’s action, we’ve picked out three course specialists from both Haydock and Newmarket. When combined, these runners form a tantalising 428-1 accumulator. Delorean (5-1, best 365) is a very lightly-raced three-year-old that is clearly on the upgrade. Obviously not the finished article on the evidence of his course and distance win last time out. It was his handicap debut on just his fourth start and he gamely held on despite significant signs of inexperience. That victory does give him a 100 per cent record to defend here. Hopefully we’ll see a more experienced horse after that educational experience as further progress looks extremely likely on start number five.
Voodoo Queen (12-1, bet365) clearly likes it in Newmarket as she’s undefeated on both tracks at HQ. That being said, she will need to step up on the form of her fifth in a York Listed race last time out. There were some excuses as she was awkward at the start and raced a little too keenly. If settling better today and learning from that experience, she has the breeding to win races at this level. A daughter of Group 1-winning juvenile Cursory Glance, she gets her stamina from her sire Frankel and should be up to this.
Mutasaabeq (9-2, bet365) has been largely consistent at Group 2 level so far this season. He’s probably due a win having been cruelly denied at both Sandown and Ascot this campaign. It’s particularly promising for him that he has won two of his three starts here at Newmarket. His excellent record over 7f suggests he won’t want a furious gallop. If the race is run to suit, he could pick up his deserved first win over a mile in Group 2 company.
