Dan Skelton is fast becoming one of the best trainers in Britain and is right on the coat tails of Paul Nicholls and Nicky Henderson now. He has some very exciting horses to go to war with this season.
Skelton proved how good a trainer he is at the weekend when West Cork, who ran in the Greatwood Hurdle off the back of a very lengthy absence, flew up the Cheltenham hill to win.
Nube Negra was also extremely impressive and must have a big chance in the Champion Chase come March. Third Time Lucki was also impressive while unlucky loser My Drogo is not one to give up hope on just yet.
After reading the Dan Skelton Stable Tour, which can be found on the Racing Post website for members, there was one horse in particular that he sounded unbelievably excited about.
The Skelton team have a very exciting horse on their hands in the shape of Nurse Susan, who bolted up at Carlisle on debut this month. This is what Dan had to say about her below.
‘She was a bit special on her debut at Carlisle last week. She’d worked really well and I hoped she’d do something like that but you can never really believe it until you see it. She could go to Cheltenham for a National Hunt novice hurdle to give her experience of the place because we’ll have to be thinking of the mares’ novice hurdle at the festival. She’s related to some good winners in Ireland and I like her a lot.’
It is surprising to see Nurse Susan as big as 25-1 for the mares’ novice hurdle at the festival in March. That could be a whole lot shorter on the day.
