‘She settles, she jumps, she’s tough’

Patrick Mullins has singled out Lossiemouth as his best best of the week. A winner in France before joining Willie Mullins, she won her first two starts in Ireland impressively. These victories came in Grade 3 and Grade 2 company. She was desperately unlucky to lose her unbeaten record at the Dublin Racing Festival, where everything went wrong in the race.

Mullins has lost no faith in the filly and believes she can go all the way. He said: “She settles, she jumps, she’s tough. She has plenty of experience too. She ticks all the boxes – the one marked ‘ability’ most of all. Gala Marceau beat her when Lossiemouth was so unlucky at Leopardstown but she fights for her head a lot and that’s a hard thing to overcome on the New course. Blood Destiny could be the joker in the pack but I just think Lossiemouth has the advantage, in this race at least.”

It must be said that his argument is difficult to go against and the level of confidence he has in the horse is hard to ignore. Willie Mullins has a stranglehold on this race, training the first three in the market. You can get double figure prices on the rest of the field, which is very telling.
