The Chester May meeting is nearly over and what a week it was, but we must now focus our attention on a fantastic day on ITV Racing this Saturday. Haydock Racecourse, Lingfield Racecourse and Ascot Racecourse combine to form the nine races live on terrestrial TV. We have picked out four outsiders who should outrun their big odds on the day.
Sir Michael Stoute won this race three years ago with Sextant and has another good opportunity at a decent price with Boss Power (12/1). He was only beaten a couple of lengths in the Roseberry at Kempton in April and now drops down in class running from the same mark. Should be spot on for this.
Universal Order (11/1) must come back from a lengthy spell on the sidelines but he won first time up in 2018, 2019 and 2020 so fresh is the time to catch him. He has defied big weights in handicaps and was a Listed winner at Newmarket in 2020 so if he retains any of that ability, he is an each way player.
Makinmedoit (20/1) has a tough ask if ratings are to be believed but there was a lot to like about the way she won her race at Brighton, albeit only beating two rivals on the day. This is a huge step up in class but she finished second to a smart Godolphin runner at Wolverhampton in November and the form of her Lingfield second in December has worked out really well.
The class act in the race. One Ruler (12/1) arrives here off the back of a Meydan Group 2 third in January and had the reopposing Path Of Thunder behind on the day. He was second to Mac Swiney in the Group 1 Futurity at Doncaster in 2020 and has to be a big danger to all first time out in a handicap.
