Our Road to Cheltenham ante-post series is well underway and Liam Bramall tipped a 25-1 shot for the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle last week. We’ve got a whopping 33-1 tip for the feature race of the entire festival for you this week; the Cheltenham Gold Cup. This ante-post selection is a proven Cheltenham Festival performer and is capable of surprising a few in the big one. Corach Rambler has been victorious at the last two Cheltenham Festivals and is being aimed at the big one this year. Lucinda Russell’s charge won the Ultima Handicap Chase over 3m1f in 2022 and 2023. That is quite the achievement, as it’s a very competitive Cheltenham Festival handicap.
He put in a wonderful performance to win the Grand National at Aintree back in April but was disappointing on his seasonal reappearance at Kelso when last seen. This horse has a fairly poor record first time out so you can probably forgive him for that effort.
His record at Cheltenham is undeniable but you would have thought he’d be vulnerable from a win point of view in the Gold Cup. That was until the horse he beat in March went on to lower the colours of both Galopin Des Champs and Bravemansgame in a Grade 1 at Punchestown. Stranger things have certainly happened and Corach Rambler wouldn’t be the worst Gold Cup winner in the last decade.
The Grand National winner will be doing all his best work late as usual and there will be few horses with the stamina reserves that this lad possesses. It’s very easy to see him running a huge race and filling one of the places.
