The Cheltenham Festival is fast approaching and is set to kick off in just nine days time. There’s plenty to look forward to and the handicaps are going to be fun betting heats yet again. The Coral Cup on Day 2 is always a highlight and this 12-1 shot is definitely one to consider. Another potential winner for the Irish, this novice could be on a nice mark. Built By Ballymore is trained by Martin Brassil, who had two seconds in Cheltenham Festival handicaps in 2023. That included An Epic Song in this race last year, who was denied by just a head. This intriguing novice looks capable of running a huge race and can perhaps go one better this time around.
The son of Flemensfirth was an impressive winner of maiden hurdle at Limerick in November. Willie Mullins’ Implicit pulled up behind him that day and has since boosted the form by winning. Equally as impressive win winning a novice hurdle at Punchestown last time, he comfortably beat four previous winners that day.
He’s probably not too far away from the level required for the Grade 1 Baring Bingham so it’s interesting that he’s been sent down the handicap route. Connections are therefore likely to be happy with this mark of 139 and he could be a good deal better than that.
It’s worth noting that Built By Ballymore is also entered in the Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle so non-runner no bet offers will certainly be useful. He looks likely to run a big race wherever he ends up so it could be worth backing him for both.
