Red-hot trainer Joe Tizzard’s two Wincanton runners form a 23/1 Thursday double

West Country trainer Joe Tizzard has been absolutely flying in the last week or so and he has landed seven winners from his last 13 runners. That impressive haul includes Alexei’s impressive performance in the Greatwood Hurdle at Cheltenham on Saturday. He’s set to send two runners to Wincanton on Thursday so we’ve combined them into a double. 1.35 Wincanton

Star Of Affinity was progressive over hurdles last season and managed to win three times in handicap company. Two of those successes came by wide margin and he appears to be fairly well treated on that evidence, now rated just 5lb higher than when winning easily at Kempton.

He shaped as though needing the run when fading into fourth on seasonal debut at Chepstow earlier this month and should improve for the run. It’s also noted that this looks like a much easier race and he should be going close with that in mind.

3.20 Wincanton

Belgarum returned to winning ways over 3m2f at Newton Abbot in May and is currently on a 6lb higher mark. The seven-year-old was well below-par when fifth at Kempton last month and that run looked too bad to be true. Perhaps he deserves another chance and the handicapper has dropped him 1lb since.

Jockey Freddie Gingell knows the horse well and he has been in excellent form recently. He has ridden four winners from 12 rides in the last fortnight, which equates to a strike-rate of 33 per cent.
