Racing on Tuesday: Irish raiders, a Nicky Henderson stat and fast ground horses at Ayr

Tuesday’s action is equally split between Flat and National Hunt action in Britain, whilst Ireland’s sole fixture at Gowran features a couple of Listed contests. Nicky Henderson’s strike-rate at Hereford last season makes his runner one to look out for.

Conditions are set to be very quick at Ayr, so we’ve selected a couple of fast ground winners. Keep an eye out for the Irish raiders heading across the Scottish track on Tuesday too. Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

Watch out for Henderson at Hereford

Nicky Henderson had a strike-rate of 64 per cent with his runners at Hereford last season and he has one representative at the course’s first meeting of the new campaign. Seven winners from 11 runners is certainly impressive and handicap debutant Ettore runs in the 7.47.

Fast ground horses at Ayr

The official going description at Ayr is good to firm, good in places but there aren’t too many runners who have won on good to firm before. Canaria Queen has though and she was winner on quick ground at Doncaster last time out. A 2lb rise shouldn’t cause her too many problems.

Coconut Bay hasn’t been in the best of form for a while but the seven-year-old mare has a consistent record on fast ground. She won on good to firm at Catterick in July and is now on a 5lb lower mark.

Irish raiders

Land Of The Giants represents the Adrian McGuinness yard and he was last seen finishing second by a neck in a Cork handicap last month. The four-year-old is yet to win a race but that effort suggests he’s capable of doing so sooner rather than later.

Karl Thornton’s Grey Fable won back-to-back starts at Chester back in July 2024 but the six-year-old hasn’t won since. His current mark is 4lb lower than when last victorious so don’t rule him out.

Outsider of the day

Mike Smith runs the veteran Golden Valour here and the 10-year-old’s last win was achieved at Musselburgh in September. He won by just shy of three lengths that day and if producing a similar effort off a 2lb higher mark here, he’s entitled to be in the mix.
