Racing news: Constitution River backed for Derby glory and Precise cut for Oaks

Adrian Wall goes over all of the latest news and it includes the big shake-up in the Derby markets at Epsom! Read for more info.

Big shake-up in Derby markets

On Sunday, there was a lot of confusion as Aidan O’Brien’s Constitution River, who had been reportedly on track for the French Derby, was smashed into favouritism for the Epsom Derby on the day. It is clear that Paddy Power must have taken some bets on him for the race as they were very quick to cut him from 9-2 into 5-2 favourite yesterday, which is a significant move.

O’Brien said: “I thought everyone was leaning towards the French Derby [for Constitution River], but I didn’t hear about that [the market move for Epsom]. Those are the vibes I was getting.

“The plan was for Constitution River to go to the French Derby with Hawk Mountain and Montreal.

“Then Benvenuto Cellini and Pierre Bonnard are pencilled in for Epsom, with maybe the horse who was second in the Dante [Action]. That could all change, but that’s the way we’re thinking at the moment.”

O’Brien added: “I thought he was going to France, but maybe the lads changed their mind. I haven’t heard yet, but maybe they have.”

Precise cut for Oaks glory after Irish 1,000 Guineas success

It’s not too often you see Ryan Moore get his decisions all wrong on the big day but he rode Precise in the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket and was beaten by Wayne Lordan’s mount True Love, and the opposite happened in the Irish equivalent as Moore rode True Love but Lordan powered home on Precise to win! It just shows that sometimes even Ryan Moore doesn’t know which horse has the best chance!

Precise has been cut from 16-1 yesterday all the way into 3-1 top price now for the Epsom Oaks and she does look like a stayer in the making.
