Patrick Mullins set to ride at Newton Abbot for the first time ever on Monday

Patrick Mullins

It’s always worth keeping an eye one Willie Mullins-trained runners in Britain, especially now he’s Britain’s champion National Hunt handler. He’s set to send his second ever runner to Newton Abbot, which will be Patrick Mullins’ first ever ride at the West Country track.

The father and son team is one of the most potent combinations in the sport and success will be anticipated once again. We’ll take a detailed look at the horse’s profile and assess his chances in Monday’s race. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

2.30 Newton Abbot

Mr Escobar (8/11, William Hill) had eight starts on the Flat and is set to make his debut over timber here. The six-year-old got off the mark in a Dundalk maiden on his last start for Joseph Murray and has frankly been disappointing five starts for Mullins. Perhaps the switch to hurdles can rejuvenate him and we can surely expect better.

Patrick Mullins has ridden at 13 different National Hunt tracks across Britain and is unbeaten at seven of them. This includes his most recent trip to the UK where he rode Fine Margin to victory at Worcester, despite a significant drift on the day. Whilst he’s not as big a certainty as most of Mullins’ rides at Britain’s smaller tracks, it would be dangerous to rule him out.

Trainer Willie Mullins has had three winners from four National hunt runners in Britain so far this season, which is ominous indeed! There won’t be too many people willing to take on Mr Escobar with that in mind and no one will be surprised if he comes out on top.
