Ayr hosts a stellar card on Saturday, with the feature race being the Ayr Gold Cup. One of the most competitive sprint handicaps of the season, twenty-four runners will go to post. The supporting cast also includes the Silver Cup, alongside the Group 3 Firth of The Clyde!
With so many competitive races, the potential for value is astronomical! I’ve gone hunting through all the big races, and am hoping to add to a 50/1 winner on the last edition of the Outsiders.
If you want to make the most out of the Outsiders, take advantage of Bet365’s ITV 4/1+ Offer. Find out how at the end of the article!
He doesn’t win often, but Louie De Palma is a classy handicapper at his best and has excellent claims if it all comes together. His recent form has been a shade disappointing, but he finished sixth in last year’s Gold Cup off a six-pound higher rating.
He returned this season with a great fourth in the Silver Wokingham off that same rating, with three subsequent efforts below his best. That being said, he does have a good recent record in big-field handicaps and he’s a very straightforward performer.
He should be prominent throughout and if showing anywhere near his best form off a lowly rating, he’s got a great chance under Hector Crouch.
She was hopeless outpaced on her debut at Ripon last month, but Setantii Girl flew home to win her introduction in eye-catching fashion. Looking to be going nowhere when they went for home, her turn of foot really caught the attention.
She does need plenty of improvement to be taking this, but she’s completely unexposed and that debut suggested she’d take a huge leap forward from it.
Her pedigree also points towards her being a progressive and precocious two-year-old, so there is a huge amount to like about her chances, especially with this likely to be an end to end gallop.
He’s going to have to do it off a big weight, but Major Jumbo has the class to do so if running to anywhere near his best. Rated 108 at his peak, he ran off that rating in this race twelve months ago. He finished down the field on that occasion, but it wasn’t a race that went his way.
His last handicap success came back in 2018, landing a big pot at York off two pounds higher. He’s rarely seen at handicap level these days, given his class, and due to some recent below-par efforts, he’s fallen to a very dangerous rating. He’s placed three times at pattern level this term, so he clearly retains all of his ability.
Kevin Ryan has a brilliant recent record in this contest and with Megan Nicholls claiming a valuable three pounds, he has all the tools to run a mighty race.
