Ollie Sangster sends one runner with a big chance on a 762-mile trip to Ayr

Ollie Sangster doesn’t send runners up to Ayr with much frequency and it’s very easy to see why. It’s a 762-mile round trip from his Wiltshire base to the Scottish track and travel costs will therefore be expensive. He’s set to send one runner up there on Monday however and the horse in question has a massive chance. Connections won’t want to go home empty-handed so keep a close eye on her. 5.45 Ayr

Sapphire Princess is Sangster’s fifth runner at Ayr and one of his previous four has won, giving him a strike-rate of 25 per cent. This filly appears to have a significant chance of providing a second course winner, having made the frame in all three starts thus far.

Beginning her career with Ger Lyons, she finished second at Cork on debut and the form of that race has worked out very well. No fewer than five horses have come out and won since and there was plenty to like about Sapphire Princess’ performance that day.

The daughter of Kingman was perhaps a little unlucky to bump into a couple of very impressive winners in two subsequent starts over this trip. It’s noted that Sangster’s filly is ex-Juddmonte and as such, she has a very useful pedigree.

This is her stable debut and it’s likely that this is her easiest task to date and whilst her debut performance suggests 7f or further will be more suitable in the future, she has shown enough over 6f to indicate that winning a race of this stature shouldn’t be beyond her.
