Adrian Wall runs through all the interesting details for Monday’s racing, including a very interesting newcomer for Sean Woods at Lingfield as it happens to be Ryan Moore’s sole ride of the day.
It may come as a bit of a surprise that Ryan Moore will travel to Lingfield for one sole ride, considering it is a newcomer for Sean Woods, but that may be a huge tip in itself and it would be no surprise to see Encounter (3.20) go off a warm order taking everything into account.
The son of Blue Point cost 65,000 guineas as a foal and his price increased to 95,000 guineas as a yearling; He’s a brother to 5f juvenile winner Sonic Blue and a half-brother to Ermesinde who is Listed-placed over 1m2f on the all-weather.
His dam is a half-sister to German Group 2 winners at 1m and 1m4f and the Woods stable is in fine form at the moment.
Eighteenth Smiles (1.40) is not bred to be a sprinter but the colt ran a respectable race on debut when fifth of 10 runners in a 5f Cork maiden earlier in the month. This is a very rare Joseph O’Brien runner at Redcar and he can be expected to improve on his second outing stepping up in distance. The extra furlong should make a big difference and he’s a fascinating runner.
Ruth Carr has won this mile handicap twice in the last three years so a market watch is advised for her runner Hachiman (2.40). The son of Frankel won a maiden at Lingfield last summer but has struggled in handicap company. This is just his third start for Carr so don’t rule him out.
