Monday’s racing: amateur rider to follow, possible gamble and Windsor trainer stat
Adrian Wall highlights some of the interesting stats and facts for Monday’s racing, including a trainer stat at Windsor.
Brodie in the driving seat at Catterick
Brodie Hampson has won the opening 1m4f amateur riders’ handicap at Catterick three times since 2019 so her mount this year may be worth a definite look. She will take the ride on Archie Watson’s Shahbaz, who ran well in defeat in amateur contests on the all-weather earlier this year but has not been in good form on grass since. Despite the yard not being in great fettle at present, this runner can’t be ruled out in a race of this nature.
Watch out for a Butler gamble
In the 6f nursery handicap at Catterick (2.45), it would be no surprise to see money come for the John Butler-trained Athos. Down at the foot of the weights and with an opening mark of 53, the gelding was set some stiff tasks in three starts to date, including when behind subsequent Group 2 winner Inner City Blues on debut at York, a race that has worked out extremely well. It would be no surprise if this gelding was well ahead of his mark here.
Lingfield runner bidding for quick five-timer
Belle Of Kt is on a tremendous run of form at present and the Moore-trained runner is bidding for a quick five-timer in the 2m handicap at Lingfield (3.30). The mare is enjoying an unbelievable season, landing the four-timer by a wide margin here over 1m5f on Saturday. She has been raised a further 10lb as a result but they’re sending her out quickly which is a real sign of intent.
Trainer to follow at Windsor
Jane Chapple-Hyam has a 50 per cent return at Windsor this year and has a sole runner in the form of Fairy Well in the 6f maiden (5.55). The 180,000 guineas Dark Angel filly was a good fourth behind a subsequent winner on debut at Nottingham before finishing second at Leicester. She should go close.
