It’s always a good idea to keep an eye on what the markets are doing as you can learn plenty from doing so. Although there are never any guarantees in this game, you can gain a good idea of the level of confidence behind a horse. There’s one runner at Navan on Sunday which has been the subject of sustained market support. Briefly available at 33-1 on Saturday evening, the horse in question is now as short as 8-1. Talk In The Park goes in the €45,000 Download The BetVictor App Tara Handicap Hurdle for Margaret Mullins and it’s certainly an interesting move. The five-year-old gelding makes his handicap debut and is officially 1lb out of the handicap. That probably leaves him plenty to do in this very competitive race but he does have the benefit of being completely unexposed.
Mullins’ charge has had four starts over hurdles so far and was a 13-length second at Downpatrick back in October. He bumped into a couple of very smart prospects when sixth at Naas last time out and the winner has since won a Grade 2. There’s some evidence in his pedigree to suggest the return to 2m4f will suit and he’s entitled to improve for the switch to handicaps.
Our tip in this race is Gordon Elliott’s Shannon Royale who should prove hard to beat on the evidence of his facile victory at Punchestown last time out. Plenty of improvement will be required if Talk In The Park is to feature here but there are reasons to be positive. Market confidence is clearly very high and it’ll be fascinating to see how it plays out.
