We enjoyed a big ante-post winner last month with Glengouly’s December Gold Cup 33/1 victory and we have another fancy at a big price to consider at Haydock on Saturday. The horse in question ran well in this very race in 2025 and last year’s form could be the key.
Available at 25/1 at the time of writing, there’s potential for massive value here. We’re going to take a closer look at the horse in question’s chances and he looks potentially very well treated. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Richmond Lake (25/1, bet365) ran an absolute cracker to finish third in this race last year. Donald McCain’s 10-year-old stuck to his task well that day and battled on well, despite getting outpaced briefly. He was running off a rating of 142 and currently finds himself on an 8lb lower mark.
Last year’s winner, Mr Vango, is 23lb worse off with Richmond Lake this time around and that should make a massive difference. Second in a competitive race at Ascot, the step back up in trip will suit and it helps that the handicapper has dropped him another 1lb.
The likes of Konfusion and Myretown are extremely progressive, which obviously makes them serious contenders here. Racing fans would love a big run from two-time winner Royale Pagaille, who was last seen finishing second in the Betfair Chase over course and distance.
It’s a slight concern that McCain’s gelding is winless since December 2023 but at this price, there’s a significant amount of each-way potential. Another big run could well be on the cards here.
