Joseph O’Brien sends a runner to Pontefract for the second time ever on Monday

Joseph O'Brien celebrates winning the Irish Gold Cup with Edwulf

Pontefract hosts the Listed Silver Tankard Stakes on Monday and it’s a contest for two-year-olds, which is run over a mile. A field of five has been declared for the race and there’s an Irish raider who could be worth checking out. Joseph O’Brien is sending a runner over and the horse in question will be his second ever runner at the track. We’ve assessed her chances of coming out on top and she’s available at a decent price. Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

3.03 Pontefract

Green Carrera is one of the lesser fancied runners in the field but it would be dangerous to underestimate her. She appeared to need the experience when finishing sixth on debut at Gowran and perhaps the heavy ground wasn’t to her liking.

It was a much improved effort when getting off the mark at Thurles earlier this month. She saw the race out well and got the better of odds-on favourite Cape Primrose by half-a-length. More will be needed here but the daughter of Lope De Vega is entitled to progress again and is likely to do so.

Top jockey Tom Marquand has been booked for the ride and that certainly catches the eye. The trainer’s first runner at Pontefract finished outside of the places and O’Brien will be hoping that this filly manages to secure some prize money.

This does look like a tricky task however, as Karl Burke’s Shayem is the one to beat. He finished third behind 2000 Guineas contender Bow Echo on his penultimate start and won nicely at Epsom when last seen. O’Brien is a shrewd operator however and isn’t one to waste ammunition.
