We don’t often get to see Flat racing at Punchestown as they only host one fixture a season and it takes place on Tuesday. Last season’s meeting was a successful one for top dual-purpose trainer Joseph O’Brien, as he landed a double from just five runners. O’Brien is set to send another strong team on Tuesday so we’ve picked out his three best chances of landing some winners. Birthe looked badly in need of the run on stable debut back in May and perhaps something was amiss because she hasn’t been seen since. She should be far too good for this field, having won the Group 2 Prix Saint-Alary when trained in France. The steep drop in class provides an excellent opportunity to get back on track and this should be a good confidence-booster.
Snapretend has produced some fair efforts despite being unable to get off the mark as of yet. This certainly isn’t the strongest of maidens and she has placed in each of her last two starts. That form suggests O’Brien’s filly should be bang in the mix and it’s hard to see her being out of the frame.
Dancing Teapot has been highly tried at times this season and the lower grade here will surely help. Winning a Gowran maiden over a mile in June, she was then sent over for the Sandringham at Royal Ascot and things didn’t quite go to plan. It was a better effort despite finishing last of four off a 2lb higher mark at Leopardstown on her penultimate start and she should be competitive with that in mind.
