Conditional rider Ned Fox has been attached to the Venetia Williams yard for a couple of years now and the 3lb claimer has ridden 10 winners so far this season. Two of those have come at Taunton and they were his only rides there, giving him a 100 per cent strike-rate. His unblemished record is set to be tested with one ride at the Somerset track on Tuesday and the runner in question represents his boss’ yard.
Williams has been in good form recently and a big run can’t be ruled out from Fox’s mount. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Lady Pretender is a French import who managed to finish second in her final three starts in her native country. She then had two spins over hurdles for current connections and it’s fair to say she didn’t show a great deal on either start.
Connections then wasted no time in sending her chasing and the six-year-old is now going the right way. Clearly the switch to low grade handicaps was a positive move and she has made the frame in each of her last two starts in this sphere.
It was a much improved display when keeping on to claim third over just shy of two miles at Wincanton in December. She took up the running at the third-last having always been prominent but got outpaced when they quickened. Williams’ mare stuck to her task well however and was less than three lengths behind the winner at the line.
This daughter of Great Pretender followed that up by finishing second under Ned Fox in a Class 4 at Leiceter and perhaps this is the day she gets off the mark.
