‘I’ve never seen anything like it’ – Leading bloodstock agent gives Champion Bumper tip

Tom Malone is a very well respected bloodstock agent and has numerous high-profile clients such as Paul Nicholls. Malone has been vocal about one horse that he has sourced for Nicholls which could be heading for the Champion Bumper. Currently available at 20-1 for Cheltenham, we’ll learn more when he makes his first start under rules. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

‘I’ve never seen anything like this’

Teeshan is the subject of Tom Malone’s affections and he’s clearly a huge fan of this horse. He said: ‘I bought him in a point-to-point late this Autumn. I’ve been doing this for 15 years and I’ve never seen anything like what this horse done in a point to point in the Autumn, ever. I’ve bought Envoi Allen, Native River and all them horses, I’ve never seen anything like this.’

‘If it’s not a freak performance and a one hit wonder, he will be 10-1 for the Champion Bumper after Saturday if he does what I think he’s capable of.’ Malone was referring to a bumper at Sandown on last Saturday, which was a potential target. Trainer Paul Nicholls has since confirmed that the plan is to send him to Exeter on Sunday instead.

‘He was the talk of Ireland’

As well as passing the eye test, it appears that Teeshan’s performance was backed up by the clock. Malone added: ‘He’s 25s or 33s at the minute and I hold him in high regard. He was the talk of Ireland just before Christmas after what he achieved in his point-to-point that day. On the clock he was 18 seconds quicker than any other race on the card.’

One look at the result will tell you that it was a mightily impressive performance at Loughanmore and you would imagine this privately purchased five-year-old didn’t come cheap. His bloodstock agent also said: ‘This horse was with the field and he turned into the back straight, he grabbed the bridle and the others just fell away by the wayside. He quickened after the last to win by 41 lengths.’

There will be plenty of interested parties if he lines up at Exeter on Sunday after these comments and an impressive win will surely catapult him up the Champion Bumper market.
