Course form can be absolutely crucial when looking for a winner. If you know your way around a place, you are going to have an advantage over somebody who has never been there before. The same applies to horses – knowing your way around a venue is always a big advantage. Adrian Wall has picked out three former course winners running live on ITV Racing on Saturday. The treble returns decent odds. Best of luck if you have a play.
The September Stakes is a competitive race on paper but the only course winner in the field is the John & Thady Gosden trained Mostahdaf and that could give him the edge. The six time winner won the Gordon Richards at Sandown in April. The son of Frankel hasn’t gone on well from that but a return to this track where he is 100 per cent might provide a bounce back.
With Soulcombe out of the race, this represents a great opportunity for Contact to get back into the winner’s enclosure. This boy won here earlier in the year, hitting the line hard as if a big step up in trip would suit. He was finishing his race off well when a close up fifth at Newmarket over 1m6f when last seen, and a return to this venue could bring out the very best in him.
Fresh‘s form figures around here read 2123491 and he did really well to see of the fast finishing Bless Him over course and distance in July. He now has a career high mark to overcome but we can’t rule out further progress around a course that he clearly adores.
