Both Newmarket and Haydock are live on ITV this Friday with seven races across both meetings. Newmarket is the feature with two Group 2s on their card with some competitive handicap action from Haydock. Liam Bramall has selected three outsiders to consider at substantial prices. Sucellus (18-1, William Hill) has an excellent record here at Haydock with three wins and two thirds in just six starts. He’s now rated just 2lb higher than when winning impressively over course and distance four starts ago. That victory came by three lengths and an extra 2lb wouldn’t have stopped him from winning that day. Has struggled off marks in the 80s since but is down to a much more competitive mark now. Better can be expected from him here.
Teumessias Fox (14-1, bet365) is much better than he showed at Goodwood last time. Finished second to Soulcombe two runs back and that horse boosted the form by winning the Melrose at York next time. Unfortunate to keep creeping up the weights despite not having won a handicap as of yet. Tries 1m6f for the first time here and if that succeeds it could unlock some improvement. We’re yet to see the best of Andrew Balding’s colt as it’s likely there’s more to come.
Lakota Sioux (25-1, Paddy Power) won a Group 3 two starts ago so it’s a surprise to see her available at such a big price. It was a good performance in the Sweet Solera Stakes at Newmarket, displaying plenty of grit and determination to win despite showing clear signs of inexperience. Having also placed in the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot, she has shown plenty of high level form. Her below par run at the Curragh in the Moyglare Stud Stakes last time can be forgiven and she deserves another chance.
