It’s always a good idea to keep a close eye on the markets and we have you covered on that front with our daily market movers. Every so often there’s a horse that is subject to significant enough support to warrant special attention. That’s the case on Sunday as one runner at Newmarket has seen its price slashed to just 11/2 having been as big as 14/1.
We’ve taken a detailed look at the horse’s chances and he could be one to watch live on ITV this evening. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Great Max is the subject of this sustained market support and the five-year-old’s mark continues to plummet. This horse began the last campaign on a mark of 99 and currently finds himself on an 18lb lower rating. Making his debut for David O’Meara here, perhaps a change of scenery can inspire a return to winning ways.
He was highly tried as a juvenile and his sole career win came on debut at Newbury. Despite the fact that he acquitted himself reasonably well in Group races, that was probably unhelpful in the long run as he’s been struggling with his mark since.
Two non-runners will have had some impact on his diminishing price but not enough to alter his odds this drastically. O’Meara’s gelding should be capable of winning a handicap but he’s running out of chances to prove it and surely it’s now or never.
As per usual we have a tip for every ITV race and in this one we’ve gone for Hat Toss. He won cosily at Sandown off a 6lb lower mark back in June and is still lightly raced in handicap company. Beaten by a head off a 2lb higher mark at Windsor since, he should be capable of making his presence felt here.
