‘It’s going to be hard work’ – Four heavy ground horses at Goodwood

The ground is set to be heavy at Goodwood on Wednesday and that means it’s going to be very hard work. It might be a good idea to look out for some horses with proven form in heavy going and we have you covered. Here are four runners at Goodwood on Wednesday who should have a big advantage over their rivals. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

2.55 Goodwood

Rhoscolyn is the only runner in the field to have won on heavy ground and that success came at this very track. He won off this mark at Epsom in May and has perhaps been struggling with his mark since. There’s no excuses now and he should be much more competitive.

3.30 Goodwood

Tiriac has a 67 per cent strike-rate on heavy ground, winning two of his three starts. Jack Channon’s gelding has been pretty consistent so far this season and managed to win at Windsor and York earlier in the campaign. The handicapper is beginning to relent and a return to winning ways could be on the agenda.

4.05 Goodwood

Maxi King remains unbeaten in two starts on heavy and he’s also yet to taste defeat over 1m2f. Raphael Feire’s colt was an impressive winner of a maiden at Doncaster on heavy and bolted up in a handicap at Ripon over the same trip next time. His sights have been lowered here after a foray into Group company and that provides a good opportunity.

5.15 Goodwood

Entrancement was a game second here over 1m4f when last seen and may well appreciate the extra two furlongs here on that evidence. She won her sole start on heavy ground and is the only runner in the field to have raced on it, which potentially gives her a significant advantage.
