‘It’s been blown wide-open’ – 10/1 is cracking value for this Gold Cup contender

Cheltenham Racecourse

The Christmas period has certainly been informative with regards to some of the big races at Cheltenham in March. One race that has been blown wide-open by results over Christmas is the Gold Cup.

Last year’s winner failed to fire in the Savills Chase, Galopin Des Champs was beaten, and it’s now there for the taking. We also have a new contender in the shape of The Jukebox Man, courtesy of his hard-fought victory in the King George.

Liam Bramall thinks this 10/1 shot could be the value play for the Gold Cup, as the track and trip will suit him perfectly. Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

Gold Cup

Gaelic Warrior was only narrowly denied in the King George and probably would have benefitted from a stiffer test of stamina. It wasn’t Paul Townend’s finest hour and he probably could have been a bit more aggressive with is tactics. This Rich Ricci-owned gelding will be a force in all the major staying chases during the rest of the season.

There was lots to like about his gutsy success over stablemate Fact To File in the John Durkan, especially as the trip was definitely inadequate for him. Mullins’ seven-year-old easily got the better of Grey Dawning in the Bowl at Aintree in the spring and that’s amongst the best form on offer.

His course record at Cheltenham is very strong and he was in a different league to his rivals when winning the Arkle back in 2024. Clearly he wants a trip now and the extended 3m2f should be right up his street. Provided he gets there in one piece, Gaelic Warrior represents great value at 10/1.
