‘It’s a full on assault’ – Shark Hanlon is sending six runners to Taunton on Thursday

Irish trainer Shark Hanlon isn’t a stranger to Britain and often has plenty of runners here but it’s fair to say that he’s really targeting Taunton on Thursday. Hanlon is sending over six runners so it’s not a raid but rather a full on assault. We’ve gone through every runner and assessed their chances of coming out on top. 12.35 Taunton

Pure Logic has been consistent in five starts, finishing second on four occasions. That includes a decent performance on her first start over hurdles at Ballinrobe in April. This probably isn’t the deepest of races and you would imagine she has every chance.

1.05 Taunton

Something Simple finished third in a Killarney bumper on debut but has struggled in five subsequent starts. Low grade handicaps should bring out the best in him however and you wouldn’t want to rule out major improvement.

1.40 Taunton

Portnacoo was an impressive winner of a novice handicap at Carlisle for Ross O’Sullivan in September and wasn’t disgraced when fourth at Gowran on stable debut last month. A four-time winner over hurdles, this is his first start over fences and there could be more to come.

2.15 Taunton

Half A Chance probably deserves a win, after placing in his last four starts. Hanlon’s six-year-old was second in a better race at Wetherby earlier this month and should be going close off a 1lb higher mark. He’s probably one of his trainer’s better chances across the card.

2.50 Taunton

Portetta was last seen running in a decent maiden at Cheltenham but was well beaten back in eighth. She showed enough in her three previous hurdles starts to suggest that winning in this grade isn’t beyond her. This looks like a very weak race and a mark of 100 looks workable.

3.52 Taunton

No Hard Feelings is probably best watched here, although we will learn plenty about him. He was comfortably beaten in four point-to-point starts but there are some positives from a pedigree point of view.
