There is an interesting market mover unfolding at Dundalk on Wednesday evening as Irish trainer John Queally is set to have his first runner at the track in 10 years. The trainer, who is based in Waterford, makes the lengthy enough journey up to the track with one horse and there has been plenty of market support behind him too! Read on for more information.
Queally last had a runner at Dundalk in 2013 so it looks like a real sign of intent that he throws one into the ring there this evening in the form of Kottayam, running in the handicap over two miles.
His two winning half-siblings both won on the all-weather which is a further point of interest tackling the surface for the first time. He was sent off 4-1 for a novice hurdle 12 months ago against a horse now rated 137, so he looks really well treated here.
Despite having to run off top weight, he can race off a mark of just 63, and Cian Horgan takes off a further 7lb in the saddle. Queally has had 18 runners at Dundalk in his career, resulting in two winners, two seconds and two fourths.
Formerly trained by Willie Mullins, he won a bumper and a two-mile flat race for the master of Closutton. He has had just the two starts for Queally to date, running just about OK at the Curragh twice on soft ground.
Backed from 14-1 into 11-2 in places, there is plenty of confidence surrounding this horse today and it would be no surprise at all if he were far too good for his rivals.
