Irish trainer sends first ever runner on 760-mile round trip to Fakenham on Wednesday

Meath-based trainer John McConnell is well able to train a good winner at a decent level, and it has to be hugely interesting that the handler will send one horse on the 760-mile round trip to Fakenham Racecourse on New Year’s Day from his base in Ireland, and it will be his first ever runner at the track. Let’s take a look at the horse in more detail below, but you can also find all of our free horse racing tips on the website too.

3.10 Fakenham

John McConnell’s first ever runner at Fakenham will be Technology, who takes his chance in the 2m7f handicap hurdle with Charlie Hammond booked for the ride. The seven-year-old son of Yeats was winless in seven starts for British-based trainer Alan King before heading across to Ireland this summer.

Second behind Rampere West at Wexford on his stable and Irish debut, that horse went on to win his next start to give the form a nice boost. Technology was well backed for a Killarney handicap next time, but sloppy jumping cost him when in the lead and he had to settle for sixth behind Doitforjane Sid.

That form has also worked out very well as that winner has won twice subsequently, including when bolting up from a 21lb higher mark at Limerick during the Christmas period.

The only issue Technology might have is he will have to run from an inflated British mark of 104, which is a good few pounds higher than his Irish mark at present. Nonetheless, he has only been with the yard a short time and is open to any amount of improvement.
