Irish trainer sends a runner to Musselburgh for the first time on Wednesday

It won’t be long before the turf Flat season comes to an end but there’s a couple of meetings on Wednesday, one of which is at Musselburgh. One of the most notable runners is an interesting Irish raider, who hails from the John O’Donoghue yard.

It’s the first time that the trainer has sent a runner to the Scottish track and the horse in question is thoroughly unexposed. We’ve taken a closer look at her chances and assessed who the main dangers might be. Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

2.25 Musselburgh

Sayidah New Bay began her career with James Tate in Britain but she only had one start for the yard, finishing last of eight in a maiden at Bath. It was a similar story in her next couple of starts for O’Donoghue and she was well beaten in maiden company at Bellewstown and Gowran.

The daughter of New Bay looked like a completely different horse when making the switch to handicaps at Killarney last month. Outpaced at a key stage, she battled back and kept on well to finish third. She’ll have no problem with the extra furlong here on that evidence and is entitled to improve again.

Top jockey Jason Hart has been booked to take the ride and that alone is enough to take notice. O’Donoghue has had 19 previous Flat runners in Britain and his only winner came at Ayr. It would be no surprise if this filly goes on to double his tally of British winners as the best is surely yet to come.
