Based at the Curragh in Kildare in Ireland, trainer Ger O’Leary is sending his first ever runners to Ayr Racecourse on Tuesday and below we will look at the stable’s four chances in more detail!
The first O’Leary runner comes in the opening 1m apprentice handicap and Zipster holds a solid chance if he can put his best foot forward. He was well below his best when midfield at Clonmel on his latest start, but a repeat of his gutsy win over this trip at Killarney in July from 2lb lower brings him right into the equation.
Next up is Yaxchilan in the 7f handicap with Joe Fanning taking the ride. This 4yo son of Mehmas won over 1m at Fairyhouse in May on good ground and came back from a short break to run a respectable ninth of 21 at the Curragh last month. A mark of 55 is very workable but he has never raced on proper soft ground so the jury is out in that regard.
Oisin McSweeney will be riding Mehman in the following 6f handicap and this is another runner with a mixed profile. His last success came at Dundalk back in January but it has been a mixed bag since, but he does look nicely treated judged on his close up fifth at the Curragh in June.
In the closing 1m7f handicap, Makaiah creeps into the 0-65 off top weight and could be a class apart. She has run some good races in defeat since winning over 1m5f at Navan in May, but again proper soft ground would raise slight concerns.
