Irish trainer Gavin Cromwell to have first ever runner at Nottingham on Tuesday ⛴️

We’re probably more used to seeing Gavin Cromwell coming over for the spring festivals at Cheltenham and Aintree over the jumps. However, the County Meath-based trainer has had 70 Flat runners across his career on these shores. None of those have come at Nottingham and he’s set to have his first runner at the East Midlands track on Tuesday. He sends just one runner over for the Listed feature race of the day and the horse has some smart form in the book. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

4.10 Nottingham

Sunset Shiraz was a very smart juvenile and she placed at Group 1, Group 2 and Group 3 level, whilst still a maiden. She managed to get off the mark at the seventh time of asking in a Gowran maiden back in October 2021 and she absolutely bolted up. Something must have gone amiss last season as we didn’t see her until September. Her best effort during that interrupted campaign was a narrow second to the Irish Oaks runner-up in a Listed race at Naas in October.

It was a reasonable effort on her seasonal reappearance in a Group 3 at the Curragh last time out. Finishing fifth, it looked like she would improve significantly for the run. The soft ground here will suit her and there’s every chance that she’ll run a huge race.

You can put a line through the form of her interrupted campaign last season. If you take her two-year-old form into consideration here, she would be the one to beat. Irish jockey Gary Carroll goes over for the ride which would suggest that connections mean business.
