The Winter Million kicks off at Windsor on Friday and there’s some thoroughly competitive action combined with excellent prize money to look forward to. This has drawn the attention of top Irish trainer Gavin Cromwell, who sends two runners over for Friday’s fixture.

Law Ella was a cosy winner of a beginners’ chase at Thurles in October 2023 and wasn’t beaten far in a Listed mares’ event at the same track back in February. Cromwell’s eight-year-old finished third in a very competitive race at limerick over Christmas and this race looks a lot easier.
It’s a small concern that she has still only won once over fences but this looks like a good opportunity nonetheless. The yard’s recent form has been good, with a strike-rate of 21 per cent in the last fortnight, and Law Ella looks capable of adding to their tally of eight winners.
Tyre Kicker completed a hat-trick of chase wins back in 2023, winning two handicaps and novice chase during that time. Clearly adaptable with regards to trip, those successes came over trips from 2m1f and an extended 3m1f.
He almost made a successful return after a 560-day absence at Galway in October, when beaten by less than a length. His two subsequent runs have been a little underwhelming however and although victory shouldn’t be ruled out, he needs to bounce back with a significantly improved effort here.
