Patrick Mullins is a brilliant jockey and it would be a travesty to call him an amateur because he is no such thing. A fantastic horseman, he is also not shy to give his opinion on a race. He did a Q&A with the Racing Post this week and there is one horse in particular that he thinks will win. Keeping in mind the plethora of superstars that Willie Mullins will be bringing across the pond in two weeks time, the fact he has picked this horse is telling to say the least. The price not be amazing but he could be one to put into a Cheltenham Festival multiple.
Patrick was asked this question by a Racing Post reader and his response was the following: “Allaho is the nap. He’s the best horse in the race, has been in good form all season and is proven over course and distance. If I could ride one of ours all week, it would be him.”
Allaho was a 12 length winner of the Ryanair Chase last season and he looks impossible to oppose again this year. He may be 8-11 but he is that for good reason and it might actually turn out to be a decent price. He won the Grade 1 John Durkan Memorial at Punchestown on his return to action and followed that up by beating Fakir D’Oudairies by 12 lengths at Thurles. Fakir D’Oudairies has since gone on to win the Grade 1 Ascot Chase so that tells you how good a horse Allaho is.
