There’s plenty of action to sink your teeth into this Wednesday with jump meetings from Ludlow, Fakenham and Sedgefield. There’s also an all-weather evening fixture at Kempton to negotiate. This should provide plenty of opportunities to find some winners in amongst some competitive action. My best bet of the day comes in the last race of the day at Fakenham where there’s a lightly raced contender who should be well placed to take on the favourite.
River Tyne is a lightly raced mare and she looks to be improving as she goes up in trip. She won a point over three miles when beating Lady Tremaine who has been useful under rules for Donald McCain since moving to his yard. Lady Tremaine has won twice under rules including a very smart victory at Carlisle yesterday giving a solid boost to that form.
What could be significant about that point win is that it was on good ground which River Tyne is yet to race on since joining Nick Gifford’s yard. She finished second here in a maiden over two miles which was a decent effort bearing in mind the trip was seemingly inadequate. She finished just over a length behind the winner who is now rated 120 getting 12lb from him if you included the rider’s claim.
This suggests that a mark of 99 isn’t beyond her, especially with further improvement likely. She ran well again when up in trip last time out, despite finishing third she was only beaten by a neck. She steps up in trip again today and tries the extended 2m7f which is close enough to the 3m when winning her aforementioned point.
The conditions of that win have been perfectly replicated with the combination of trip and ground, which should produce further improvement from this potentially unexposed mare.
