‘I think she’s top-class’ – Huge words from Willie Mullins and she’s 14/1 for Cheltenham

Adrian has loved racing from an early age, and regularly visits his local tracks in the west of Ireland. With a love for both UK & Irish flat and jumps racing, his favourite festival is the Galway Races and he goes there every year.
Conor Fennelly of the Racing Post sat down with Willie Mullins for an insightful Stable Tour so head on over and check out his runner-by-runner breakdown which is available to Premium members. One quote in particular stood out and if Mullins is right, then 14/1 could be a massive price.
The horse in question is Lady Allen Vega, who is currently a 14/1 chance for the JCB Triumph Hurdle. However, Mullins seems to be very sweet on her chances and stated: “I think she’s top-class. She’s Triumph Hurdle material rather than the Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle. She’s put in two big runs on her last two starts.”
This filly certainly has a lovely pedigree and should keep on improving. She’s a half-sister to French Listed hurdle winner Flip De Vega and her dam was a 1m4f AQPS Flat winner and is also a half-sister to six-time Cheltenham Festival winner Quevega.
A winner on her sole hurdles start in France, Lady Allen Vega finished second to leading Triumph Hurdle candidate Hello Neighbour at Leopardstown’s Christmas festival when beaten only a short head.
She bumped into the same rival at the Dublin Racing Festival when finishing third on the day, with Joseph O’Brien’s Galileo Dame sandwiched between the pair. The hill at Cheltenham should be right up her street and there’s every chance further improvement will be on the way.
The big question is how strong are the Irish raiders this year compared to the British horses. Lulamba and East India Dock look really good so it will be interesting to see how the race pans out. One thing is for sure, it should be a belter.
