Arkle Novices’ Chase

Lulamba has the potential to be very special and he is already showing signs of that this season. Both the two-mile and three-mile chase divisions are wide-open and there for the taking next season, so Nicky Henderson’s gelding can take full advantage.

Still only a five-year-old, he’s going to get better and stronger with time and will almost certainly want longer trips in the future. He’s more than capable of winning the Arkle over two miles this season however and his preparation has been very smooth, in direct contrast to main rival Kopek Des Bordes.

The son of Nirvana Du Berlais won both starts in novice company without coming out of second gear and there was lots to like about his victory in open company at Newbury last time out. It wasn’t smooth-sailing for him that day but he overcame some problems to win easily in the end.

Horses who have the potential to be as exceptional as him are hard to find but they can get themselves out of trouble and clearly he possesses that ability, as evidenced by his run in the Game Spirit Chase. Lulamba could win the King George and the Gold Cup next year and he’s expected to win here first.
