‘His record is incredible’ – 16/1 Aidan O’Brien double at Chester on Thursday

Aidan O’Brien has struggled so far this season and it was a bitterly disappointing display from odds-on favourite City Of Troy in Saturday’s 2000 Guineas. The stable’s form does tend to pick up at around the time of Chester‘s May Festival and it’s Day 2 on Thursday.

Ballydoyle’s master trainer has won the Listed Dee Stakes 10 times and the Group 3 Ormonde Stakes five times which is an incredible record. With that in mind, we’ve combined his runner in each race on Thursday into a juicy double. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

3.05 Chester

Capulet goes in the Dee Stakes and he had some solid form as a juvenile last term. The son of Justify got off the mark on his debut over a mile at Dundalk in August and followed that up with a narrow second behind stablemate Diego Velazquez in Group 2 company.

It was a very disappointing effort when third on his seasonal reappearance at Chelmsford last month but he’s likely to improve significantly for the run. His pedigree suggests the step up in trip will also help and this colt is entitled to go close with Ryan Moore on board.

3.40 Chester

Point Lonsdale won his first three starts at two, including a four-and-a-quarter-length demolition job in the Group 2 Futurity Stakes. Injury ended his three-year-old campaign early but he was victorious in the Huxley Stakes here last season.

Despite failing to fulfil the potential he showed in his younger days, he has maintained a fair level of form since. You would have hoped for a better performance at Meydan last time out however and the drop in grade looks warranted. He’s the best horse in the race according to the ratings and should run well.
