Beating the Aidan O’Brien battalions in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket is never an easy task. The master of Ballydoyle has won the race 10 times, including four of the last 10 renewals. O’Brien trains the first two in the market for Saturday’s big race and Paul Cole believes his charge can come out on top. Paul Cole’s record-breaking colt has plenty of potential and it could be a big day for the team. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Royal Scotsman could be a flag-bearer for the Paul & Oliver Cole yard this season and one of his trainers believes he could go very well indeed. Paul Cole said: “He’s been working really well and is not a difficult horse to train. He’s sound and well and it’s all been plain sailing so far. It was always the plan to go straight to the Guineas.” It looks like all systems go for Saturday’s big race and if Cole’s comments are anything to go by, we can expect to see him fighting it out at the business end of the race.
A son of Gleneagles, he broke the two-year-old track record at Goodwood when winning the Group 2 Richmond Stakes over 6f in July. The step up to 7f in the Dewhurst Stakes last time out proved to be no problem and he was only narrowly denied by Chaldean. Facing a mile for the first time here, his pedigree suggests the new trip will be absolutely fine.
Cole was also outspoken about the handicappers decision to to take a stronger opinion on the Irish two-year-old form. He added: “I think the English form is the best. The handicappers have rated that Irish form higher and it’s a question which form is better. Personally, I don’t think it is, but the race will determine who is right.” That is one thing which is guaranteed, we will find out on Saturday if it’s the British or Irish three-year-old milers who’ll rule the roost this season.
