‘He’s the finished article’ – Patrick Mullins reveals his Cheltenham Festival best bet

Nothing happens at the Willie Mullins yard without his son and leading amateur rider Patrick knowing about it and the latter is a key cog in the wheel at Closutton. He recently offered up his best bet of the Cheltenham Festival so it’s time to get the notebooks out! We’ve also highlighted his whopping 66/1 each-way fancy in the Champion Hurdle for those who like an outsider. Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

Best Bet

Final Demand has been put up by Mullins as his best bet and it’s easy to see why. This horse absolutely bolted up in the Grade 1 Nathaniel Lacy & Partners Solicitors Novice Hurdle and subsequently shot to the head of the market for the Turners Novices’ Hurdle. It was hard not to be impressed by that performance and it’s fair to say that Mullins certainly was.

He said: “His temperament is going to be a huge advantage to him in the Turners Novices’ Hurdle and he looks the most straightforward of our favourites.” Mullins later discussed which novice hurdlers take his eye and added: “Final Demand just looked the finished article, didn’t he?”

Outsider to watch

The nine-time Cheltenham Festival winning rider offered up Winter Fog as an each-way play in the Champion Hurdle. Available at massive odds of 66/1 in places, it would be some shout if the horse makes the frame. He offered: “Stranger things have happened than Winter Fog getting up the place part of an each-way bet in the Champion Hurdle. There’s lots of pace, lots of people fancying their chances and that leads to blowouts and mistakes. He can sneak in and rob some more prize-money.”
