It’s fairly rare these days to see good to firm in the going description of a National Hunt track in early April but that is the case at Taunton on Wednesday. Some runners are going to appreciate it more than others so we’ve picked out three such horses to follow. They include one horse who is the only runner on the card to have won on good to firm before. Check out out free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Saint Bibiana has won three of her five starts on good ground and that bodes well here. She remains very lightly raced over fences, having had just one start over them so far, but she will need to improve on that effort. We know she stays as far as an extended 3m2f so the extra two furlongs are unlikely to be an issue, especially on this faster ground. It’s also worth noting that trainer Georgina Nicholls is operating at a strike-rate of 33 per cent in the last fortnight.
Florencethemachine needs to have decent ground and it’s noted that connections have kept her powder dry through the winter months. Paul Nicholls’ seven-year-old won a Class 3 at Exeter in November and you can put a line through her latest effort as she’s better than that form suggests. A return to winning ways shouldn’t be ruled out as she’s well treated over hurdles.
School For Scandal is the only horse to have won on good to firm before and as such, he’s the best equipped runner on the card. That victory came over course and distance back in November and the 10-year-old should be dangerous off a 4lb higher mark.
