‘He’s riding out of his skin’ – Nico de Boinville goes to Hereford for just one ride 👀

Nico de Boinville looks like having a winner every time gets on a horse at the moment as he’s riding out of his skin. It could therefore be significant that he goes to Hereford on Tuesday for just one ride. He’s operating at a strike-rate of 50 per cent in the last fortnight with three winners from his six rides. His mount is a last time out winner trained by his regular boss, Nicky Henderson. Confidence must be high that he can steer another one into the winners’ enclosure. Jen’s Boy (6-4, Paddy Power) doesn’t perform when there’s even a hint of soft in the description. Connections will therefore by encouraged by the fact that the ground is good to firm. The eight-year-old gelding has finished second once in two starts on good to firm which is encouraging enough. If the ground can get a little bit closer to good, that would be ideal as all of his five career-wins have come on good.

It was the stewards who awarded him the race over an extended 3m2f at Newton Abbot last time. The demoted horse bumped his rival on the run-in, causing enough interference to overturn the winning distance of a length. Those two were over 13 lengths clear of the rest of the field which suggests another victory could be on the cards despite a 4lb hike in the weights.

It’s unlikely we’ll see this horse over the winter so it makes sense for connections to make hay whilst the sun shines. This gelding isn’t always the most consistent but conditions are in his favour and that could facilitate back-to-back victories.
