‘He’s not one to take on’ – Key trends and a verdict for Thursday’s race of the day

Huntingdon Racecourse

We’ve got a couple of rare treats on offer at Huntingdon on Thursday, in the shape of a couple of Listed contests. One of which is the Don Lockwood Sidney Banks Memorial Novices’ Hurdle and some smart horses have won it over the years, including the likes of Shishkin, and it’s the race of the day. We’ve picked out some key trends which could be worth noting and they point to a big run from one horse in particular. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

Six-year-olds have fared well

Six of the last nine winners have been six-year-olds and that applies to all of the six runners, except one. Five-year-old Lady Tadita would need to buck the trend, as only two of the last nine winners were the same age. Leading candidates Act Of Innocence and Sinnatra both fit the bill.

Avoid outsiders

Four of the last nine winners were favourites but more importantly, the biggest price winner during this period was 9/2. Outsiders are worth taking on with that in mind, so Glance At Midnight, Fresh Perspective and Tiddesley Wood have been crossed off the list.

Official ratings

The lowest rated winner since 2016 was rated 129 which again leaves us with Act Of Innocence and Sinnatra. Nicky Henderson’s record of two wins in the last six years gives the former the edge. Glance At Midnight only misses out by a couple of pounds but does have a bit to find on form too.

Verdict

Act Of Innocence was a bumper winner for Paul Nicholls back in March and he comfortably got the better of Sinnatra in a maiden hurdle at Newbury on stable debut. Out-sprinted under a penalty after that, the step up in trip will suit and he’s not one to take on here.
